Much like the recent storm tore through the northern region the prior day, the home side overwhelmed United away at the Etihad Stadium. It was a statement three goal win for their manager's side thanks to goals from Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a performance that firmly established their title credentials as they reinforced their standing at the league summit.

Back-to-Back Setbacks for United

This scoreline represented consecutive Women's Super League losses for Marc Skinner’s side for the maiden instance since May 2024, placing them seven points off the top team with their championship aspirations hanging by a thread.

The Red Devils' capability to juggle league and European football with a thin roster has been a widely debated issue since they earned a place in the Champions League. Considering the schedule, it always appeared this was the period that would seriously challenge this fortitude. Regrettably for the visitors, they seemed tired from start to finish, the historic win against PSG clearly having left its mark.

Team Changes

The United manager had sought to make changes with a handful of alterations. Toone, Terland, Janssen and Leah Galton all brought energy, although the exclusion of the in-form Melvine Malard to the bench raised a few eyebrows.

City, in opposition, have no similar loading issues. Jeglertz made one change from the previous win over Everton with Lauren Hemp making her first start since recovering from a physical setback.

Commanding Opening Period
